The NGS Knowledge Hub is a component of the South Sanitation Technology Enterprise Program (SASTEP), a national innovation platform system that seeks to accelerate the adoption of innovative and emerging sanitation technologies in South Africa by encouraging local manufacture and commercialization.
SASTEP was established by the Water Research Commission (WRC) in partnership with the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and with the support of the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS). The NGS Knowledge Hub serves as a starting point for connecting South African-based manufacturers with business partners across Africa. It will also draw on lessons learned from the South African experience, including pilot projects and materials developed to date (NGS product, virtual tours of installation sites, case studies and white papers, training modules, etc.).
The knowledge hub is designed to support the training and onboarding of various key NGS stakeholders and actors within NGS’s industry ecosystem (i.e. government, institutions (IFIs), United Nations ( UN) agencies, Non- Sewered Sanitation Liaison (NSSL), NGS Engineering and consulting companies, financiers, potential NGS supply chain partners and the public).
NGS knowledge dissemination will support the advancement of NGS market readiness and adoption in early adopter market segments in South Africa and across Africa.
